Mission & Beliefs

The mission of Hope Lutheran church is to serve and glorify God by sharing the sure Hope of heaven with one another, the people of our community, and people throughout the world. This is a certain Hope brought to us by God through his perfect Word and Sacraments.
  • We have been serving the Midlands since 1971, and in the Irmo community since 1993. We look forward to serving you!
  • We are a Christian church that shares Christ's unconditional love and forgiveness with all just as Christ has shared his unconditional love and forgiveness with us.
  • We are a Biblical church, proclaiming the pure Word of God in its entirety. It is the divine basis for our beliefs and shapes our lives.
  • We are a Confessional Lutheran church that believes God saves and strengthens us by feeding our souls through his Word, Baptism, and Lord's Supper.
  • That the entire Bible is God's perfect Word to all people.
  • That God is three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, yet one God.
  • That all people have fallen short of God’s perfect expectations and need God’s forgiveness, offered freely in Christ Jesus, the world’s Savior.
  • That Jesus Christ, true God from all eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, has removed the guilt of our sins by living perfectly in our place and then willingly taking upon himself the punishment we rightfully deserve for our sins when he suffered and died on the cross.
  • That forgiveness of sins and peace with God comes freely and only through Jesus Christ.
  • That through faith in Jesus, God delivers the forgiveness of sins and the sure hope of heaven to people personally.
  • That those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin will respond to God’s love by gladly and freely living according to his Word with thoughts, words, and actions that are a reflection of his love.
  • That Jesus Christ will return on the Last Day to judge all people and take all who trust in him to heaven.

The Lutheran church is a Christian denomination that traces its history back to the early 1500's. The teachings of the Lutheran church can be summarized in the words of Martin Luther that say we know and believe that Jesus Christ saves sinners "by grace alone, through faith alone, on Scripture alone." While Lutheran history is over 500 years old, the message and the church's ministry is current and its message is relevant because it is built on the timeless truths of God's Word, the Bible.

Hope Lutheran Church is one of over 1,200 churches that are part of the church body known as the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The history of these Lutheran churches can be traced back over 150 years ago to three founding churches in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, today there are WELS congregations and missions all across the United States and the world.
